Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my child needs braces?
If the child has crooked teeth, bite issues or gaps between their teeth, then they may be a candidate for braces. We can determine if braces are the most effective course of action during an appointment. The first step is to call us and schedule an appointment.
When will my child need braces?
In most cases, a child will begin wearing braces around the age of 10. In other cases, they may not wear braces until they are around 12 years of age. If the child needs to straighten their teeth before all of their adult teeth are in, then we can consider space maintainers or other orthodontic treatment options.
Are there any foods my child needs to avoid when wearing braces?
Yes. Children wearing braces need to avoid hard, sticky, chewy, and sugary foods. Things like nuts, popcorn, caramel, bubblegum, and more can damage the braces. We will go over the list of foods to avoid during the appointment.
What should I do if my child damages the braces?
If a wire begins to come loose, is poking the gums, or there is another issue with the braces, call us right away. We can help advise you on how to proceed. In most cases, we can help parents help relieve the pain until the child can visit our orthodontist.
